What's Going Wrong (Part 2)
Don't reject, instead accept and support a person with TB, urges Dr Sheilja Singh, in this segment that focuses on how TB can be tackled better. The efficacy of the government's RNTCP, Revised National TB Control Programme, in coping with deadlier strains, is examined by Dr Lalit Kumar Anande, Chief Medical Officer of the country’s largest TB hospital in Sewri, Mumbai. How the RNTCP's approach often goes wrong is highlighted by Sadanand Lanjewar whose son was not treated for multidrug-resistant TB (MDR TB) on time. Additional Deputy Director General of the Central TB Programme, Dr Kuldeep Singh Sachdeva, answers questions regarding the government program. Soumya Swaminathan, Director of the National Institute for Research on Tuberculosis, says the rising numbers are a blot on India's growth story. The segment ends with a call to action asking viewers to give a missed call on 1800-833-4004 if they agree that TB should be declared a national health emergency.
