STORIES OF LOSS
“ Mera langotiya yaar, jiske saath main apne pehle 10 saal tak tha, woh aaj
duniya mein nahin hai. 14 years ki age mein uski death ho gayi. Usko TB ki bimari thi
aur main uske liye kuch nahin kar saka, mujhe uska dukh hai. Mere village mein ab
tak bahut se log TB ki bimari se gujar gaye hai. Ek-do family mein koi mard hi nahin
bache hai!
” - Vinod
“ When I was only 8 years old, my father died because of the TB disease. But my
mother educated me.
” - Kirit
Saoner, Maharashtra
“
One of my uncles suffered from TB and it is only in the last stage that we got
to know that he was suffering from TB and there was no chance of survival. He was
hardly 37 years old that time and had a 3-year-old daughter.
” - Aswini
“
My father had TB in 1949. There weren’t much treatment facilities in India
then. My mother spent all her savings on his treatment but still my father passed
away. The episode reminded me how we survived - it wasn’t easy.
- Bhushan ”
