Of love and shraddha
In the outskirts of Mumbai, in Karjat, Mr Bharat Vatwani and his wife Smita Vatwani, spend many busy days working with and for people with mental illnesses. At their care home, Shraddha, people are brought from the street and immediately clothed, bathed and cared for. Slowly, the caregivers build an emotional relationship with them and start their medical treatment and rehabilitation process.
Within a few weeks, a dramatic change is visible in many patients as their behaviour changes and they find themselves becoming more stable than before. However, it is very difficult to reconnect them with their families. But the social workers of Shraddha give in their all in finding the addresses of their families. Today, over 3,500 mentally ill people have been rehabilitated by Shraddha and reunited with their families in far-flung villages and towns across the country.
