I currently study at a reputed business school in US. My personal story is
quite in contrast to my brother‘s. I got everything in my life and on the other
hand, as a family, we have been struggling to find the right support for my 30-
year-old brother who has been suffering from schizophrenia for the last 18
years. It is a challenge day in and day out to find the right resources and help.

I suffer from schizophrenia. My friend observed a different behaviour in me,
took me to a doctor in Bangalore and sought immediate help. I work and live
all alone in the city. My family does not understand this illness and they even
refused to believe it. I had cried for many days, living all by myself. I pray that
all those suffering from mental illness get immediate medication and support
from their family and friends.

I am 26 years old and I would like to share my mother‘s story. She has been
struggling with OCD and schizophrenia for almost 20 years now and we came
to know that these are illnesses only two years ago.
Our doctor in Hyderabad helped us out with the treatment and reduced her
fees as well as we were unable to pay. My mother was in a hospital for four
months, but she is much better than before now. My father‘s younger brother
has given her a job in his school and she is happy.
-Tina
W e are four sisters. My eldest sister got married at the age of 22 when I was
around seven years old. We lived in Meghalaya at that time. My father was a
lecturer in a college and my mother, a housewife. My sister was diagnosed
with schizophrenia just after her wedding and her husband left her in around
six months because of this.
