I am from Ahmednagar, Maharashtra. I have a younger brother who passed
his BE in Computers in August 2014 with 70%. Three months ago, he suddenly
woke up at midnight and said that he was God and he was in heaven. Since
that day, not just my brother‘s life but my whole family‘s life got changed. It
was the toughest thing for my parents and me to believe that my brother could
have some kind of psychological disorder! Even if our brains accepted that,
our hearts just could not.
One day, my brother said that he wanted to go to Mumbai where he had been
studying since the last four years. He was so stubborn. Later that day, he
jumped from the terrace of our house even before we could see or hear the
terrace door opening. We were so scared because we thought we had lost him
forever. He fractured both his legs but luckily, he was fine otherwise. That day,
we realised that we should take him to a doctor. We went to a psychologist and
later to a psychiatrist in Thane, Mumbai, and we were told that he has bipolar
disorder. I don‘t know if he will ever be normal again.

I live in Ludhiana in Punjab. My brother is suffering from bipolar disorder
and we have consulted multiple doctors over the years. A doctor from a
premier institute in Delhi examined him, changed his medicines and asked us
to come again after two weeks. We were expecting the doctor to keep him in
the hospital for a few days at least, but that didn‘t happen as they didn‘t feel
the need for it.

M y sister was diagnosed with bipolar disorder 15 years ago. We have been
trying to provide her with all the support, but she refuses to take medication
and thinks we are trying to kill her by forcing her to take medicine. She doesn‘t
listen to doctors either. She thinks she is fine and refuses to go to the
psychiatrist or even for counselling. We have exhausted all options of handling
her and we are mentally and financially drained.
