NGO YOU SUPPORTED: UNIQUE HOME FOR GIRLS

    A blessing, not a burden

In Indian society, young girls and women are often seen as a liability to be married off soon after they hit puberty. But this mindset is being challenged by many NGOs. Among them is the Unique Home for Girls, which has offered love and shelter to infants and young women rejected by their families.

Being a graduate from an IIM, you are going to earn perhaps more than what most people in our society earns in their whole life in a year or two.... Still they talk about dowry as if that was their birthright of being a boy.

    Hi Satyammevjayate Team,

You are doing a really commendable work... Todays episode on Dowry is something that I used to wonder for a long time..."Why this Practice?" I had posted it earlier also that this is one of the major cause of the female foeticide that we saw in the first episode. Of course marriage is a market place now... For me, being in IIM and hearing some of my batchmates discussion about this issue simply shocked me..... Being a graduate from an IIM, you are going to earn perhaps more than what most people in our society earns in their whole life in a year or two.... Still they talk about dowry as if that was their birthright of being a boy. If I am not wrong, legally dowry is banned but it still continues...WHY?

I had a discussion on this topic earlier with some people they said that the dowry existed because it was needed for maintaing the girl in the family...Well is that the reason? A woman comes into the house takes control and manages it, does household chore(even if she is working). Does it still call for that her parents will sponsor her life even after marriage..

In some casual discussions, we used to talk about someone proposing beautiful girls in our batch itself.... To my utter shock... One guy had said that in that case... he may have to forego the dowry that he would get even after graduating from a place like this.... Imagine that is the mentality even in the upper class of the society, the gems of the society and cream of India and we talk of INDIA SHINNING with such mean mentality.

Another thing for the Satyamevjayate Team.... Recently in face book I came across this post

(No offence to Amir Khan from me.... I had always respected you and with this show my respect for you has increased even more)

Just find out the truth about the man Sri Raviv Dixitji and if there is really some truth in what this link says about him, I would request you to please bring him as a guest of honour in one of your episodes and have and interaction with him. That will be the best answer to the people who think that this show is on Only for money and TRPs.
