I just watched your show on child abuse. Being a victim of child abuse between

the ages of 3 and 14 years, which is believed by professionals and close friends to
have resulted in chronic asthma without genetic predispositions, I must point out
two issues that went unaddressed in the show.

I am writing this message to you from my hospital room after spending hours in
the ICU suffering from an asthma attack, 21 years after the abuse started and 10
years after it ended. Perhaps it has the potential to disable me; perhaps it will be a
continuous reminder or perhaps a continuous source of inspiration to bring positive
changes in my life in any way that I can.

Firstly, apart from the 3 body areas you mentioned that children should not let
anyone touch (chest, between the legs and behind), another crucial part is the
mouth. Many victims, both boys and girls, suffer from forced oral sex. This usually
takes place with extremely young age groups—infants, toddlers or perhaps even
adolescents. It is imperative that this is brought to light and awareness is spread so
as to limit abuse of such nature.

Secondly, I noticed that the majority of the children on the show said they trusted
their father more than anyone else, and rightly so. However, I would like to mention
that it is often the ones trusted blindly—an uncle, old servant, a cousin or the father,
whether biological, step or foster, that commit the crime.

I myself am a victim of abuse from an old and trusted family servant. This is
primarily why it took me so long to speak up and end it. Since my parents trusted
him, I had convinced myself that I should too, thereby not only blocking out
instances of abuse but also justifying them.
