Incest is among the cruellest and most baling of human
experiences. It is a betrayal of the most basic trust between a
child and a parent. A parent is supposed to be a protector and a
nurturer. Incest betrays the very heart of childhood—its innocence.
The child’s accessibility and dependency might allow parent-child
incest to continue over long periods of time and contribute to the
child’s entrapment and powerlessness. The child might feel that
they have nowhere to run, no one to run to. But remember, it may
be possible to seek help from a trusted friend or family member
or counsellors, teachers and NGOs.
Healing is a painful process but if you can go through every stage,
then the road ahead will get easier. Full healing is certainly
possible. Ask for help. Find a good counsellor. Reach out to friends.
Join online support groups. Allow yourself to grieve for the lost
moments of your childhood and feel angry. Remember that you are
real, whole and strong and know that you are never alone!
