There was a person named Vijay who asked me for dowry when we were thinking of marriage. To my
surprise, this person was a computer engineer and working with a good company in US and fetching a
good salary. But the greed for money in him and his family took him to a dirty point as he harassed me
to a great extent for dowry.
That person and his family kept asking me disgusting questions like - How much does your dad earn? Is
your house property on ownership? Why don’t you wear real ornaments? What gifts will your family
give us during the grand wedding?
Luckily, I ended everything with that person before things went too far and I am glad that I didn’t let
that bastard be a part of my life. I am thankful to God for helping me take this decision and not get
caught in the trap. I request every girl and the families out there to please be strong and not let your self-
respect down before such people and their families.

I married my daughter off to a software engineer. They never asked for dowry. My daughter and son-in-
law are happily enjoying their family life with their baby daughter Elakshi. I married my only son
without asking for any dowry. I have two more daughters to marry. But I do not get any offers from
prospective grooms or their parents because our daughters’ profile carries a warning: “Dowry seekers,
please excuse”.
The whole generation has become rotten to the core barring a few exceptions here and there. I am
waiting for the day when some angel will appear and say, “I am ready to marry your daughter without
dowry.” The wait is painful for a father like me who feels so helpless before his daughters.

I am a 23-year-old unmarried girl student. My father is a government employee. My mother is a school
teacher. My father always shouts at my mother for any kind of reason even if it is a very negligible
matter. When I was a child, I was very frightened due to this.
Now I protest against this and ask him why he behaves like this. He also shouts at me and says that
because he didn’t take any cash from my mother’s maternal house, he has the right to badmouth my
mother. Sometimes, he tells my mother to get out from his house and if I protest, then he asks me to
also get out from his house. He used to scare my mother by telling her that he will beat her up. He
threatens us that he has a good knowledge of Indian law and so, if we think of taking any kind of help
from the laws, we will never get justice.

A strong protestor against dowry initially, I couldn’t fight for myself. I couldn’t fight because I had to get
married. I got married after the sorrowful end of another relation. I was afraid that no one will accept a
girl with a past relationship.
