I t happened with me twice when I was in college. I think my age was 17. It
happened with me at a boy’s hostel. A teacher of our institute tried to do it with me
one day. I was so shocked and was unable to do anything that time. Two friends
were sleeping in the same room. I was unable to oppose my abuser because I was
in fear. That night was an unforgettable night for me.
I was unable to sleep for the next 3–4 days and at the same time, I was unable
to share this thing with my parents or other teachers or with friends because that
teacher was reputed, helpful and very famous among everyone. After that night,
he called me many times at night and asked me to sleep with him but I made some
excuse or the other.
I took admission for my postgraduate studies in the same college and that teacher
had gotten married by then. One day, he tried the same thing with me again and this
time, I was mentally prepared for some reaction. I slapped him hard and got out of
there by 1 a.m. He was so shameless that he called me again 3–4 times to sleep with
him but I could conidently say no.
I feel guilty sometimes that I was unable to do anything for other persons like me
who are victims of abuse by that shameless teacher. I work with a big multi-national
company and will now conduct awareness programmes in neighbouring localities.

W hen I saw your show, I felt I had so much to say; I felt like I was there. You are
sometimes not safe even with your bodyguards—your parents. Today, my dad is
paralysed. I may have forgiven him for abusing me but I don’t know why I am so
disturbed. I am 35 now, pregnant with my second baby. I do hope that I have a girl.
