I am 28 years old and I work in an MNC. Since my parents were unhappy about me wanting to marry
my Muslim boyfriend, we decided to run away from Delhi for our safety. A few weeks later, my family
contacted me and said that they have accepted us. That was a big surprise for us. Suddenly, one day, my
husband called and said that the police have caught him.
I was in shock. When I went to the police station, the officer told me that my husband is a fraud and
asked me to go back home with my father or else, he will beat my husband to death. I was scared but I
stayed in the police station for six hours. My father then forcefully took me from there to a hotel. My
father, my brother and one more relative told me that if I don’t divorce my husband, they will pay the
police and ensure that he is killed.
Thus, under pressure, they brought me back to my parents’ home and kept me in a room without a
phone for 20 days. My father then kidnapped my husband’s father and forced my husband to sign the
divorce papers.
Today, I am living with my parents but every day, they torture me physically and mentally. My
husband’s parents have taken my husband away from Delhi to their native place. I want to live with my
husband and his family. Please help.

My father works as a policeman in Patna and is quite liberal. He allowed me to move to another city for
further studies. We used to visit his brother’s home in a village during our annual holidays. At his home,
we saw that however hungry the girls of the home were, they could eat only once the boys had eaten. The
girls could eat only leftover food. The women had to sit down on the floor to let their sons, but not
daughters, sit on the bed.
I’m the only working woman in my extended family. My relatives taunt my mother by saying, “Ladki ki
kamaai kha rahe ho. Pata nahi baahar kaise kapde pehenti hogi, kiske saath soti hogi!” My father too has
become less understanding now because of the things that my relatives have fed him.
When I told my parents about the person I love, my mummy opposed me. My uncle said that his career
will be finished if I go ahead with an inter-caste marriage and he will not let it happen even if it means
he has to kill my partner. My parents are now asking me to marry a guy that our relatives have chosen
for me. My mother is saying that my father will lose respect in society if I cancel that wedding and that
it’s better if I eat poison instead of marrying the guy I want to spend the rest of my life with.

I am a Maharashtrian guy. I am in a relationship with a Marwari girl. We are in a relationship since
three years. Since her parents don’t like inter-caste marriages, she says she has no option but to end this
relationship. I don’t want her to run away with me as that will surely hurt her parents and we won’t be
able to live a happy life.
