Jan Sahas in Hindi means 'courage of the people', and it is this courage that has driven the organization and its work. It has fought on behalf of manual scavengers, bonded labourers, victims of atrocities, Dalit and tribal women and children, women forced into sex work, and survivors of rape and sexual abuse. In response to the 2012 Delhi gangrape, Jan Sahas started Nirbhaya Abhiyan, a programme that provides shelter, counselling and legal aid to survivors of rape and sexual assault.
