Operation Asha

Operation ASHA is the biggest tuberculosis control NGO in India in terms of patients. With its use of a fingerprinting and electronic medical record system (eCompliance), Operation ASHA’s path breaking use of technology for healthcare has ensured accountability and data accuracy.

  • Inform TB patients looking for help about Operation ASHA's treatment centres that operate in eight states.
  • Send an email to the NGO at if you would like to get trained as a DOTS provider.
  • Donate to the NGO in kind-nutritional supplements, non-perishable food, iron and calcium tablets, Android tablets, and reading glasses.
  • Sensitize domestic helpers, drivers, and people living in nearby slums or villages about the need to prevent and treat TB.
  • Invite the NGO to organize a TB awareness camp in schools, offices, residential complexes and other communities.
  • Learn about some of the patients that the NGO works with here and offer them your support.
  • Form committees that can oversee that their district TB programme supplies all medicines, diagnostics and physician services on time to every TB patient or symptomatic person.
  • Start a TB treatment or DOTS centre in your community with the NGO’s support.

  • Participate in rallies organized by the local District TB officer on World TB Day (March 24) in your city.
  • Help get media coverage for the events that the NGO will organize in Delhi in March 2015 around World TB Day.
  • Ask local chemists to refer TB symptomatics to the nearest testing centre.
  • Write to NGOs and government authorities suggesting that they to use the eCompliance biometric tracking system to improve treatment success rate.
  • Write on social media, newspapers and magazines about the need to eradicate TB.

Operation ASHA

Operation ASHA (OpASHA for short) delivers high quality health services with a focus on tuberculosis (TB) to 3,000 slums, villages and tribal areas with an unprecedented treatment success rate, at a cost that is 19 times less than other NGOs. In terms of the number of patients, OpASHA is the biggest TB control NGO in India and the third biggest in the world.

Operation ASHA obtains medicines, diagnostics and physicians’ services worth Rs. 5270 free for each TB patient, mostly from the government. The NGO produces accurate and reliable data with the use of eCompliance fingerprinting and electronic medical record system. This model reaches 55 lakh disadvantaged people across eight states in India and two provinces in Cambodia. It has also been replicated in Uganda, Kenya and Dominican Republic since 2012.
