I live in New Zealand and am happily married with three kids. I was one of those
kids who was abused since I was a baby. Very few people remember this time of
their lives but I do. My mom and dad used to leave me with my mama and go out
and he used to abuse me. The irst time I stood up to him was when I was in class
9. So you can say it took me around 13 years to do that.
My mama used to come to our house to see my mum and being a middle-class
family, we only had a small house and he used to sleep in the same room as my
siblings and me. At night, I used to feel his hands all over my body and then he
would grab my hand and put it in his pants. I used to freeze.
Whenever I was alone, he would suck my lips. At that time, I remember I was in
class 2 and I told this to my mum saying that it happened to one of my friends. My
mum’s reply was that my friend is dirty and she deserves what is coming her way.
After that, every time he abused me, I used to come out of the room as if I was
guilty.
Now I am 41 years old and I told my parents last year. They didn’t know what to do
so I have stopped speaking to them in the last 6 months. But in all this, I have come
out as a very strong person and my husband is my strength.

I am a victim of child sexual abuse and the perpetrator was none other than my
own father. He abused me since childhood and is continuing till now though it’s in
a very small way as I ight with him now and am able to protect myself. I came to
know about it only when I was 14 and it was the night just before my exams. Why
did I not know about it before? Because he used to do everything when I was in
deep sleep.
That night was shocking as hell for me. It felt as if hell had broken down on me.
My whole understanding of my world, my dreams, all suffered a breakdown. Since
childhood, I had learnt that I am from an impoverished family and being a single
