D uring my medical internship, I had the misfortune of witnessing a few such
incidents. One girl vividly occupies my memory. She was 6 years old. She was
brought for medical examination in the labour room at around 1 a.m.—it was a
case of rape by her own father. Obviously this was shocking as the person most
trusted is one’s father. The girl was there for some 1.5–2 hours. For some reason,
her examination was postponed till morning. I just feel that the way we deal with
such cases is quite insensitive sometimes.

W hen I was just 8 years old, my uncle found me alone in my room at 2:30 a.m.
and played sexual DVDs and for two years, he did what you talked about in your
show. Jab hum alag hue, meri jaan chhooti par samajh mein bhi nahi aaya ki mere
saath aisa hua hai. Main uss waqt ko bhula nahi pa raha hoon. Ab agar woh mere

R ecently, I gathered the courage to come out and voice an episode of sexual
assault that I was a victim of. It took me 1.5 years to think through it and express it
on social media.
After I voiced my horror, I was praised for my courage but, as expected, I also faced
threats, criticism and slander from various quarters. Especially since the perpetrator
is an award-winning media professional. I am determined to not give up my ight
and in fact, I am inspired to help save potential victims in the future.
