I am an Indian settled in US and I am 47 years old. I was happily married until my husband’s brother’s
marriage ended. My husband’s sister told him that unless he started controlling me, his life would
become hell like the brother’s who was getting divorced. My husband started to control me and my kids.
Four years ago, I met with an accident and I am now fully disabled. For a year now, my husband is
undergoing counselling and that is helping us.

My husband has deserted me and also taken away my two kids. In spite of various court orders, he has
not allowed me to meet my kids. I am fighting alone. My in-laws, being influential persons, and my
brother-in-law, being a lawyer, have made matters worse for me.

My husband hits me a lot. He doesn’t want me in his life. I was under a lot of tension because he was
having an affair. I left home and began living alone but the world is a very cruel place so I don’t know
what to do. I want to live happily. I don’t want to go back to that life of abuse and pain.

I was married when I was in class 7. I had to stop my studies after class 12. My mother-in-law treats me
badly. I want to end this relationship but we are four sisters in my family and if I leave, it will create a
problem for my sisters. I wish someone could help me come out of this situation.

I am a working woman and a mother of two kids. I am suffering from domestic violence from my
husband, both emotionally and physically, since the past ten years. I can’t take it anymore.

My aunt was kicked out of her home by her husband when she was six months pregnant in the middle of
the night. She had a two-year-old son at the time. She came back to her mother’s house and had her
second baby. She is a doctor. She got back on her feet and established herself professionally. She raised
her children singlehandedly. Today, her children are well-settled. Her son is a doctor and her daughter
is happily married and settled in Australia.

My neighbour beats his wife and she cries and shouts. I don’t want her to bear more pain. He beats his
two sons to tears too. Wish I could save them.

I know a woman whose husband is having an affair. He and his parents treat her badly. He wants her to
leave with their kids. She is scared and doesn’t know what to do. She does not want to go to the police as
she fears that he will change the story and claim that she is having an affair.
