My elder sister’s husband drinks a lot and hits her. Despite wanting to do something about this, I have
not been able to do anything. Her two kids are learning to abuse and use dirty language. She has been
diagnosed with symptoms of cancer but her in laws aren’t treating her and neither are they allowing me
to get her treated.

My younger sister is being harassed by her husband and in-laws. Her husband has installed CCTV
cameras in the house and also in her bedroom. This is like exploiting her privacy also. Even the police
officials are not co-operating.

I have three children. My parents are too old to support me and I do not have any brothers or sisters. So,
my husband takes advantage of my situation and tortures me. He blames me for all his failures. He
drinks and shouts at me almost every night. He even misbehaves with my parents. Every night is scary
in our house. I do not want a divorce because of my children but I really want some peace for my
children and myself.

My sister got married in 2008. Her husband used to beat her for no reason. My sister is an associate
professor and an independent woman. However, for the sake of her family, she is carrying the burden.

Even though the court gave orders to my sister’s ex-husband, he didn’t give her any alimony after their
divorce and she is looking after their daughter all by herself. He has remarried and has two kids from his
second wife.

I have suffered mental and physical torture by my husband in my two years of marriage. His parents
support him. He used to beat me at least once a week and I would try and fight back. I broke his nose
once. My position in that family was that of a servant. But I focussed on my career and eventually,
moved out. I now stay with my parents and work as a visualiser in an MNC. I will take the final decision
about my marriage once I finish my studies next month.

When I got married in 2003, I was very worried about my future because my husband was an alcoholic.
He would drink every day and hit me. I would tell him not to fight with me but he would ignore my pleas
and hurt me.
One day, when he hurt me, I kicked him hard. So, he began abusing me saying, “Tumhaare ghar walon
ne tumhe yehi sikhaaya hai ki apne pati ko maaro?” So, I told him, “Mere ma-baap apne bachchon ko
aisa nahi sikhaate. Yeh sab tumne sikhaaya mujhe.” After that day, my husband has never raised his
hand on me.
