I’m a Malaysian and my husband is Indian. We both migrated to Australia recently. I cried while
watching your show because being a doctor, I personally came across this very same situation in my
clinics in Malaysia. Once, I had a female patient coming in to have her routine scan at four months. This
particular patient who was from Bihar asked if I could determine the sex of the child. I don’t usually tell
my patients the sex of the child till they ask so I continued scanning and happily told her that it’s a girl.

I didn’t see any joy on her face. It was her first child and yet, I was the only one in the room beaming
with joy. The couple then paid the consultation bill and left. After four hours, they returned demanding
to speak to me personally, cutting the line of the queue of patients waiting outside. I allowed them to
come in to avoid the commotion outside. They just asked me if I could perform an abortion right away
and said they were willing to pay any amount.

I politely told them that I don’t perform abortions in any case except if the mother’s health is in danger
and that too only in government hospitals. In private practice, I’m really against abortions. They raised
their price to 2000 ringgits, which is a lot if you convert it to rupees. I was surprised to see the situation
and threatened to call the police if they don’t leave immediately.

The wife was quiet all the while but the husband threatened to kill me if he saw me outside. I continued
to work and some three hours later, the wife comes in crying and screaming and soaked in blood. I was
in a shock to see what had happened. Her husband, the jerk who threatened me, had forced her down
with his mother, pushing the hook of a hanger into her vagina to hook the baby out. I was speechless but
she was bleeding heavily.

I immediately told my nurse to call an ambulance to the clinic and I got her to lay down on the bed and
started examining her. The hanger hook tore and shredded the whole cervix so badly that I couldn’t
catch the bleeder as it was just oozing and bleeding everywhere. On the scan, blood clots had started
forming in her uterus so I knew she needed a hospital transfer fast and looking at how pale she was, she
might need a blood transfer too. The ambulance arrived and I ordered them to send this lady to a city
hospital asap.

On the way to the ambulance, this lady cried and told me that she wanted the child. I was helpless
because they provided a false address, a false phone number and for all I know, a false name at the time
of registration at the clinic. I tried following up with this patient by calling a few friends around in the
city.

Apparently, she was discharged well but lost her pregnancy and returned back to the hospital a few days
later with third degree burns on her legs and hands, claiming that the house caught fire. I am really
convinced that this was just abuse or torture but no one can actually do anything if the woman does not
open her mouth and admit that it was her husband behind all of this.

When my wife was pregnant with our second daughter, the doctor in Vadodara said that if the second
child is a girl, then you can go for an abortion. In reply, I told the doctor that even if the second child is a
girl, we will not commit such a sin. I am now going to see the doctor with my second daughter when I
visit India next year. I would like to tell her how beautiful, loving and caring my daughter is and what
she has achieved in her life. Greedy doctors.
