Mere behen ki shaadi 1983 mein hui. December mahine mein uss par mitti ka tel daal kar usse jala diya
gaya dowry ki wajah se. Uska husband mechanical engineer hai. Usne apni maa ke saath meri behen ko
maar dala. Phir usne doosri shaadi kar li. We didn’t get any justice.

After our engagement ceremony, my fiancé asked me for money. He told me he assumed I would have at
least one lakh in my account when I told him that I don’t have savings. I told my brother about this but
he forced me to marry this guy. Our parents are no more.
After our wedding, I was beaten by my husband for a silly reason and was asked to go back to my
previous home for a few weeks. He asked me to return only after my application for Provident Fund was
processed by my earlier company. Since the HR manager was away and I was unwell, I couldn’t finish

Can you believe that my in-laws said that my mother must arrange the wedding in a five-star hotel and
give an AC, LCD TV, furniture, expensive gold jewellery and a diamond ring of their choice?! They said
that they needed these items from us to show off to their relatives or else, they would have no respect in
their family. But we were so stupid that we didn’t understand that they were so greedy for dowry.
Since cards were distributed, I was thinking of what people would say rather than taking a bold step to
cancel the marriage. I feel guilty now. They ruined me and my life by their utmost torture after my
wedding even after my mother had obeyed all that they said and asked for. My ex-husband’s family
made me cry day and night and even tried to kill me for their greed for dowry. God saved me.
