A n old watchman in a neighbouring building took a 4-year-old girl to the terrace
and tried to abuse her. She bit him and ran away. Later, the society’s residents beat
up the man. The girl could run away only because of the conidence which her
parents had given her. It is important for children to know that we are with them.

I would like to talk about two instances that I know of. A woman had problems
conceiving a child and the doctor said that it was because she had been a victim
of sexual abuse when she was younger. Her husband created problems in their
marriage due to this and started treating her very badly.
In another instance, my friend’s soon-to-be partner questioned her virginity after
she trusted him and bravely shared the trauma that she went through as a child. Is
this the level of our sensitivity?

I know of three sisters who were sexually abused by their father. He got them
married to his immediate nephews and made them stay at his house even after the
wedding so that he could continue the abuse. He prevented them from sleeping in
the same room as their husbands and the three sisters did not share any of this with
their mother for they feared she would not believe them.
However, they had a younger sister—a 10-year-old girl whom they wanted to
protect at any cost. They eventually told their mother who immediately divorced
her husband and moved out of the house with her daughters. Hats off to the mother
who had the courage to do this in spite of being raised in an environment where a
woman never dares to go against her husband.
