I don’t live in India but my father is from Kerala and mom is from Odisha. My

parents found a 35-year-old maulana to teach me Arabic when I was 10 years old.
One day, he told me that he had a dream that Allah had ordered him to marry me. He
told me to not tell anyone this ‘secret’ because it was an order from the Almighty.
I was too young and my respect for Allah was so strong and unbreakable that I
could utter no words that would upset Him. The next day, he forcefully raped me
saying that he was my husband. I tried to hide this a lot from my family but after a
while, I couldn’t. I told my brothers and gradually, my mom, dad and uncle were
informed.

My family members held me responsible for this incident and were looking for that
person with the intention of hitting him but they couldn’t ind him anywhere. My
father then took a sudden decision. We immediately left the country and started a
new life in a neighbouring country. Due to this incident, my parents didn’t allow me
to study beyond class 10 and got me married early.

I did not see this episode but as a child, I have been through sexual abuse… not
rape but in other ways… by servants, relatives and family friends.
