S ometimes, parents too are not really our supporters. My dad sexually abused me
and my sister for years. How can you justify this? He is a retired naval soldier and
my mom could never stand up for us.
My elder sister and I were abused and raped from the age of 5. My sister is married
today and has a supportive husband who knows everything about her past and loves
her to the core. I am a medical student and presently staying in a hostel and I
recently got to know that my dad has abused others in the naval community as well.
Is this what we deserve?

O ne of my uncles (bua’s husband) had kissed me when I was a teenager. I told my
sister about it but couldn’t muster the courage to tell my parents as this uncle was
very respected in the family. He is a doctor and has a daughter almost my age! I
was also worried about my bua and didn’t want her married life to suffer. Secondly,
I didn’t want the family to gossip about it although I made sure that I never let this
man come close to me ever again.

I live in Ahmedabad and I have gone through such incidents thrice in my life.
They don’t leave me even after 20 years. My father’s sister’s husband did it to me.
I told my mother and then my father about this. They trusted me but they did not
do anything about it because he was the son-in-law, the damaad and they could not
spoil their relationship with him because it would affect my father’s sister badly. I
always ask them, “But what about me? Don’t you think about that?”
