I lost my father when I was 19 years old and my mother as well last year. I had three head injuries in five
years of my marriage because of my husband. I even attempted suicide. Later, I moved out with my
young son and started staying with my mother. But then, in 2012, cancer attacked my mother and she
couldn’t survive. In that crucial period, my husband did a lot of good things for my mother and for my
family. So, now I’m staying with my husband since the past one year. He has promised that he will not
take any kind of drugs or alcohol.

I live in Singapore. My neighbour once told me that her husband hit her a lot with a belt and tortured
her in other ways. She even went to the police but as she doesn’t know English, the police couldn’t
understand her problem. Now her husband is sending her back to Hyderabad and asking for a divorce.
She hails from a very poor family and her parents are ill. I wonder how life will be for this 20-year-old
now.
